Awake now on DVD…is a surprisingly effective thriller… this rare modern horror effort that relies on suspense rather than bloodshed. The ads for this film tease you with the expectation of watching people go through the horror of physical awareness during surgery and in truth, you do experience one…but the main premise of the film ends up being irrelevant to the actual story line. First you are hit with one decent plot twist in the film…and then get the wind knocked out of you with another plot twist that caught me totally off guard. Both played perfectly into the storyline and were really well done.
The operating scenes looked extremely real and were uncomfortable at times to watch…very graphic.
Not something you want to watch if you are considering surgery in the near future. If not…rent it…I did…and enjoyed it!
